ALTAR

ALTAR

A traditional Mexican altar in the day of the dead is an offering to the past life of a person and a celebration of the present time,  it is a festivity of life. Altar was a prototype of a posthuman altar. The materials used ranged from immortal cells HeLa to the bacteria and parasites that will thrive from the bodies after death, Traditional objects such as the skulls and the flowers of the altars were mixed with new technologies as sequences of DNA and cell images decorating a Catrina. The piece merged the tradition, art, and science pretending a smooth analogy to the cultural miscegenation nowadays present in the Mexican tradition of the day of the dead.
